Befinner mig på Istanbuls flygplats på väg tillbaka till Kabul efter semester i Sverige. På en utställning i Malmö hittade jag boken på bilden nedan och tänkte att den passade bra som en ”övergångsblogg” mellan Sverige och Afghanistan: ”The Concise Book of Visa Application Forms”.

Förutom att visaformulär kan vara ganska enerverande och ett tydligt exempel på världens rådande rörelseofrihet är jag lite fascinerad över alla dessa papper – var förvaras de, hur länge sparas de? Boken är ett konstverk av Meriç Algün Ringborg från Istanbul, vilket ju gör att det känns än mer passande att lägga upp bilden just nu. Så här beskriver hon den på sin hemsida:

The Concise Book of Visa Application Forms is reminiscent of the spiritual song “he’s got the whole world in his hands”, as that is de facto what one is doing when flipping through its pages. In the bureaucratic world of moving across borders, application forms with questions such as “do you consider yourself to be a person of good character” or “have you ever been accused or committed genocide” must be filled and sent to the respective consulates along with a stack of personal documents, bank papers, invitation letters, plane tickets, birth certificates… etc. In this book all of these forms are accessible to the viewer, theoretically enabling him or her to enter a world, which is not as open as we often like to think. The book is an attempt to construct a symbol of a closed world, illustrating also the bureaucracy of moving across borders and what hidden structures traveling and moving depend on.
